This body of work is my BFA honours online exhibition, a digital journey inspired by the turbulent times of the Covid-19 pandemic. As the world grappled with uncertainty, I found inspiration amidst the chaos.
Drawing from my own experiences of boredom and angst, I crafted a web-comic that echoes the nostalgic charm of retro narrative video games. Entitled 'Mundane Marcardia', this immersive web experience transports you to the heart of my small town, Makhanda, where everyday life takes on a whimsical yet relatable twist.
Navigating through the challenges of lockdown, I transformed my creative struggles into a pixelated adventure, reminiscent of the web games that shaped my childhood. From the streets of 'Street Fighter' to the mazes of 'Pacman', and the excitement of 'Pinball', each frame pays homage to iconic gaming references while capturing the essence of my journey.
Despite the uncertainties that loomed over us, this project became my beacon of sanity. Join me on this nostalgic escapade, and may you find as much joy in experiencing it as I did in bringing it to life.
